Best Wedding Cakes Galore

Wedding cakes can be the symbol of unity and the beginning of fun at a wedding reception. Images of a bride and groom smashing a piece in to each other’s face are not necessary.

Going local
One of the easiest ways to pick a wedding cake is to go to your local bakery. Better yet, you can go to the bakery in the town where you will be married.

When you go with an out-of-town wedding cake, you may not be able to access them quickly in an emergency.

Being close to the bakery helps you if you have any questions or concerns as the wedding gets nearer.

You may want to choose a larger style or a smaller one, depending on the responses to your invitations. In fact, smaller bakeries can be more flexible than the larger, more impressive ones.

Since you won’t be competing with hundreds of other couples, you have a better chance of getting personal service too.

The size matters
Although the baker that you have selected will be helping you with a size that is appropriate for your guest list, you may also want to consider a few other things.

A larger cake style is more impressive in pictures at the cake-cutting ceremony. You may want to choose separate tiers or just multiple ones to give the cake a better height so it’s not hiding behind you and your spouse.

The size is also a consideration when choosing the flavor. One of the newer trends is to have particular flavours for each tier.

So if you want to have more flavours, you’re going to need more tiers, and an overall larger cake.
And don’t forget to save the top tier for you and your spouse to eat on your first anniversary. It’s a really a sweet tradition.

A different idea
If you’re still interested in having multiple flavors, but not a larger cake, you can try separate cakes for each table.

Some couples have opted for this as they can provide different flavors, but also guests may move from table to table to try other flavors—and in so doing, create more conversations and relative interaction.

Your wedding cake can be as simple or as elaborate as you choose. If your budget is a concern, then you may want to keep in mind that at the end of the night, you will be eating it and that no one will worry about how expensive it was.

Chocolate cake

Wedding Cakes-The BEST ACCESSORY For Your Cake
Wedding Cakes-The BEST ACCESSORY For Your Cake

There only a few things in this world that tempt me beyond my wildest imagination. My will power seems completely disappear whenever the word chocolate is even whispered.

However, my absolute weakness is chocolate cake. If you want to get even more specific, chocolate cake with peanut butter icing. Ah yes, there is nothing better suited for pure indulgence.

When planning my wedding, my husband and I butted heads over the wedding cake. I was a huge advocate for having an all chocolate wedding cake while he was not in favor of it.

After going back and forth and taking into consideration the possible preference of all of the guests, we decided on going with different flavored tiers.

The largest tier was marble, the middle tier was chocolate and the small top tier was red velvet. This way, everyone was happy.

I had secretly hoped that my husband would choose to have a chocolate cake as his groom’s cake, he wrinkled his nose at that idea. We ended up not even having a groom’s cake. I would have been content with having a chocolate cake just for myself.

There are so many different ways to make a chocolate cake. When you walk down the baking aisle at the grocery store, you’ll see brand after brand offering their cake mixes.

I can probably say that I have tried almost every one of them, if they offer a chocolate cake, and could almost be a critic of them.

Out of all of the generic brands and name brands, I personally am a huge fan of Duncan Hines. They have great brownies as well, but their chocolate cake mixes are heavenly.

My grandmother passed a recipe along to me several years ago. Before her health had started to decline, she would make a chocolate cake every month when the family would get together.

That cake always tasted absolutely perfect. It was always perfectly moist and always had the right amount of peanut butter icing on it. Just remembering how yummy it was makes my mouth water.

Though I now hold that recipe in my hand and have attempted to recreate the perfect chocolate cake since then, I have not yet mastered her perfection.

Somehow, she must have added a special ingredient or perhaps just some extra love, because mine has never gotten to be as moist as hers used to.

I’ve asked her about it, but she just smiles. She tells me that it took her seventy years to perfect the recipe and that I would have to figure it out as well.

I suppose my love for chocolate cake comes from my happy memories of sharing that dessert with my family.

My grandmother always made it so lovingly and perfectly that I will always have a special place in my heart for chocolate. I only hope that someday, I will be able to get it to turn out as well as hers did.

A Beach Wedding – It’s Your Day – Have It Your Way!

For years tradition has dictated what was ‘acceptable’ when planning a wedding. The long white gown, the programmed church ceremony,

the rented reception hall with the arranged seating and the sky high wedding budget were all considered to be proper wedding etiquette.

Well it is the year 2006 and those traditions are fast falling by the wayside! Today your wedding can be anything you want it to be. Pastel wedding gowns are definitely “in”.

Your wedding ring does not have to be a diamond. Your reception doesn’t have to be a stodgy sit-down affair and you guests don’t need to be afraid to cough during the deafening quiet as you exchange vows.

Today, beach weddings are becoming very popular as more and more savvy couples opt for less traditional, more relaxed settings for their big day.

Beach weddings can be much cheaper, less stressful, and just all around plain fun. They allow you to involve everyone in the activities. Guests are not restricted to sitting quietly in their seats. They can actually be a part of the celebration!

A beach wedding allows you total creative freedom and there are so many ways to go.
You may choose and elegant sunset ceremony with a formal reception under a grand white tent illuminated by candle light and tiki torches.

You may choose to just ‘cut loose’ with an afternoon ‘fun-in-the-sun’ beach party by exchanging your vows at the water’s edge, spreading the beach towels and having a barbeque reception.

Your gown may be a beautiful Hawaiian “holoku”, a beach wrap, sarong or a simple sundress.
Your wedding cake might be a tiered cake, a sheet cake, a sculpted cake, individual mini cakes, cupcakes or even cookies!

Your favors may be elegant chocolate shells or sand dollars tied in pretty tulle bags or just plain fun items such as sunglasses, mini beach pails and sunscreen.

Your music may be as simple as bringing a great sound system and playing your own favorites or you may choose to “limbo” to the sounds of an authentic steel drum band playing Calypso and Reggae music.

Your theme may have a Caribbean or Hawaiian flavor, or you may choose to incorporate your own favorites such as dolphins, mermaids, lighthouses or sea creatures.

You could have a western beach wedding and leave on horseback. Have a nautical wedding and sail away into the sunset. Oh, there are just so many possibilities!

If you are lucky enough to live on or near a beach already, you are halfway there. If you don’t, not to worry, there are endless locations that offer beautiful wedding packages to fit your budget.

By the way…don’t rule out your beach wedding ideas because you don’t live near an ocean or can’t afford to go to one. The definition of a beach is – “the shore of a body of water, especially if sandy or pebbly”.

That includes lakes and rivers. For that matter, you may have a “beach” by your swimming pool. There are no rules. Be creative!

As with everything in life, there are pros and cons to having a beach wedding. They are nothing to worry about, just be aware of them and plan for them. Your wedding day will be a wonderful and joyous event!

Just remember…it is your beach wedding! It can be anything you want it to be – wherever you want it to be! Most of all…have fun!
